Our Name: A Staff for the Weary, a Foundation for the Fallen
In the Ethiopian tradition, “Meqoamia” (መቋሚያ) carries a profound meaning. It translates to a staff, a support, or a pillar. It is the steady rod one leans upon for strength when weary or unable to stand alone.
As the Meqoamia Community Development Organization (MCDO), our name is our mandate. We serve as a scientific and moral staff for a generation weary from substance addiction and “addictive thinking.” We are dedicated to supporting those who have fallen and providing a firm foundation for minds that have been shaken.
Our Philosophy: A Nation is its People
The core belief of Meqoamia is summarized in one powerful sentence: “A nation is its people, and a person is their mind.”
We believe that a nation is built not just by buildings and infrastructure, but by the collective cognitive and mental health of its citizens. When a citizen’s mind is healthy, their capacity for creativity, productivity, and collaboration is limitless. Conversely, substance abuse disrupts the brain’s natural function, directly hindering national progress. To us, nurturing the human mind is the ultimate act of nation-building.

Our Mission
To empower the youth to become productive citizens by providing Evidence-Based Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) training, mental health advocacy, and life-skill development programs that protect their “mental capital” and unlock their full potential.

ስለ መቋሚያ (MCDO)
ትርጓሜያችን፦ ምርኩዝ ለዛሉት፣ መቆሚያ ለወደቁት!
“መቋሚያ” የሚለው ቃል ጥልቅ የሆነ ኢትዮጵያዊ ትርጉም አለው። መቋሚያ ማለት ድጋፍ፣ መደገፊያ፣ መቆሚያና ምርኩዝ ማለት ነው። አንድ ሰው ሲደክመው ወይም በራሱ መቆም ሲያቅተው ተደግፎ እንዲቆምበት የሚይዘው የጥንካሬ ዘንግ ነው።
እኛም “መቋሚያ የማህበረሰብ ልማት ድርጅት (MCDO)” ስንባል፤ በአደገኛ ዕፅ ሱስና በአደንዛዥ አስተሳሰብ ምክንያት ለዛለና ለደከመ ትውልድ ሳይንሳዊ ምርኩዝ ለመሆን፣ የወደቀውን ደግፈን ለማቆምና ለተናወጠው አእምሮ መደገፊያ ለመሆን ቆርጠን ተነስተናል።
ፍልስፍናችን፦ ሀገር ማለት ሰው ነው!
የመቋሚያ መሰረታዊ እምነት በአንድ ዓረፍተ-ነገር ይጠቃለላል፦ “ሀገር ማለት ሰው ነው፤ ሰው ደግሞ የከበረ የአንጎልና አእምሮ ባለቤት ነው!”
ሀገር የምትገነባው በህንፃዎችና በመንገዶች ብቻ ሳይሆን፣ በዜጎች የከበረ የአንጎልና የአእምሮ ድምር ውጤት ነው። አንድ ዜጋ አእምሮው ጤናማ ሲሆን የመፍጠር፣ የማምረትና የመቀናጀት አቅሙ ይጨምራል። በአንፃሩ የአደገኛ ዕፅ ተጠቃሚነት የአንጎልን የተፈጥሮ አሰራር በማዛባት የሀገርን እድገት ያሰናክላል። ስለሆነም አእምሮን መንከባከብ ሀገርን የመገንባት ያህል ትልቅ ተግባር ነው ብለን እናምናለን።
ራዕያችን
ከአደገኛ ዕፅ ተጠቃሚነት እና ከአደንዛዥ አስተሳሰብ የፀዳ፣ በጤናማ አእምሮ የሚመራ ባለ ራዕይ ትውልድ በአፍሪካ ላይ ሰርቶና ተነስቶ ማየት!
ተልዕኳችን
በሳይንሳዊ ማስረጃዎች ላይ የተመሰረቱ የሱስ መከላከል ስልጠናዎችን (Drug Demand Reduction)፣ የአእምሮ ጤና ግንዛቤን እና የክህሎት ማበልጸጊያ ፕሮግራሞችን በማቅረብ፤ ወጣቱ አቅሙን አውቆ ለራሱና ለሀገሩ የሚተርፍ አምራች ዜጋ እንዲሆን ማስቻል ነው።

መቋሚያ (MCDO) — ጤናማ አእምሮ ለበለፀገች ሀገር!
ህጋዊ ሰውነት፦
መቋሚያ የማህበረሰብ ልማት ድርጅት በአዋጅ ቁጥር 1113/2021 አንቀፅ 88/3 መሰረት በኢትዯጵያ ሲቪል ማህበረሰብ ባለስልጣን ስር ተመዝግቦ በምዝገባ ፍቃድ ቁጥር 2099 ህጋዊ ሰውነት የተሰጠው አገር በቀል በአደገኛ እፆች ተጠቃሚነትና ሱሰኝነት ቅድመ መከላከል እና የሱስ ህክምና ዙሪያ የሚሰራ ግብረ ሰናይ ድርጅት ነው፡፡
ድርጅቱ በሱስ ህመም ለተቸገሩ ግለሰቦች የስነ ልቦና እና የማህበራዊ ድጋፍ ይሰጣል። MCDO በሕክምና እና በማገገም ፤ በምልሰተ ሱስ ቅድመ መከላከል (በመልሶ ማቋቋሚያ አገልግሎቶች) ሰፊ ስራ እየሰራና በመስራት ላይ ይገኛል፡፡ የስነ አዕሮም እና የሱስ ህመም ችግር ያለባው ሰዎች በየደረጃው ድጋፍ ሊፈልጉ ይችላሉ። የእኛም አገልግሎት የአደንዛዥ ዕፅ አጠቃቀም ችግር ያለባቸውን እና የአእምሮ ጤና ጉዳዮችን ያጠቃልላል።

Goal
The focus on successful life at home as an adaptation to deficits is sometimes hard for patients and their families to understand. Many patients are perfectly content to do drills for hours and hours on end in an attempt to improve core skills. However, planning realistic strategies with which to approach post-injury life is just as, if not arguably sometimes even more, important.
