Following an ordinary session of the ATCA Board of Directors, MCDO was unanimously admitted alongside prominent African civil society organizations. This landmark resolution officially integrates MCDO into the continent’s primary civil society alliance dedicated to advancing tobacco control policies and protecting public health governance.
Elevating National Advocacy to a Continental Stage
Formal integration into the ATCA network marks a strategic step forward in expanding MCDO’s advocacy footprint. As an accredited member, MCDO will collaborate with regional leaders, researchers, and public health advocates to exchange best practices, counter industry interference, and support the robust enforcement of tobacco control frameworks.
“This recognition by ATCA validates the dedicated work our team and partners perform every day on the ground in Ethiopia,” stated Elias Kalayu Abrha, Founder & Executive Director of MCDO. “Joining this pan-African alliance provides an invaluable platform to align regional strategies, share evidence-based solutions, and amplify Ethiopia’s voice within the broader African public health movement.”
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships & Regional Impact
MCDO’s admission into ATCA directly reinforces its ongoing collaborative work with domestic regulatory authorities and international partners, including the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK). Through ATCA’s strategic communication networks, joint campaigns, and policy monitoring platforms, MCDO will help bridge local policy implementation with broader continental public health goals.
MCDO extends its sincere appreciation to the ATCA Board of Directors and Secretariat for this warm welcome, as well as to our key partners whose unwavering support continues to drive our collective success
